Voice synthesis and voice recognition products

There are a number of products available for both voice synthesis and voice recognition, including IBM Via Voice and Dragon Naturally Speaking. You can find further information about two of the best known products at the following web sites:

IBM Via Voice: http://www-306.ibm.com/software/voice/viavoice/

Dragon Naturally Speaking: http://www.scansoft.com/naturallyspeaking/

Some operating system versions have voice synthesis built in. Again the AbilityNet MyWay site at: http://www.abilitynet.org.uk/myway/ has information on this topic

Select a voice recognition package and a voice synthesis package available to your library service. In each case set up the package and get practice at using it. Jot down sufficient notes so that you can demonstrate it to a client in the future.

You've now reached the end of this section, which is also the end of Outcome 2. You can go back to any topic by using the menu at the left-hand side of the page, or click the ICTL logo at the top left of the screen to return to the Unit 5 home page.
