Reader development initiatives for clients with special needs or with specific language requirements

Reader development initiatives is the term used to encompass funded, time-limited projects or book prizes, which open up a wider range of reading choices for clients. Well known examples are "A touch of.." and "A touch more of.." run by the National Library for the Blind.

This is a wide client group and there may not be reader development initiatives relevant to each sub-group. We will give some examples of reader development initiatives for particular client groups.



Bi-lingual Welsh reader development website, developed as part of the Estyn Allan reader development project. It includes new Welsh fiction and Welsh language materials.



Resources for visually impaired readers to try out a range of reading experiences before deciding which books to choose. This is a partnership between the National Library for the Blind, the Royal National Institute for the Blind, Calibre and the Society of Chief Librarians' reader development project Branching Out.



An extension of the above project including a wider range of sample materials.
