Identifying current reading experience and preferences of clients

When dealing with clients with special needs and with specific language requirements, sensitivity is always required. It is important to remember that disabilities may not affect the reading level of clients or their reading interests. Similarly, a client who lacks fluency in English, because it is their second language, may be capable of reading complex literature in their mother tongue.

Keeping structured notes of the interview will enable you to make reading recommendations based on what was actually said during the interview and not assumptions.
