Introduction

Outcome 4 relates to the initial identification of the reading preferences of clients with special needs or with specific language requirements and the use of online resources to meet these needs.

This client group might include those with visual or hearing impairments, those whose first language is not English, those with physical disabilities, those with literacy difficulties, and those with Dyslexia or special learning needs.

Many of the clients in this group will be mature and capable readers who would benefit from some of the resources described under Outcome 2 but will require assistive technologies or materials in their mother tongue to enable them to access the wide range of reading resources.

The skills involved in this Outcome are essentially described in detail under Outcome 2, however the resources and the approach will differ.

It would not be helpful to repeat all of the information from Outcome 2 here. If you want to review any of the material from Outcome 2 click the ICTL logo at the top left of the page to return to the Unit 2 home page and follow the link to Outcome 2 from there.

Before proceeding, outline any specific points to be considered when undertaking interviews with clients with special needs or with specific language requirements.
