Evaluations of reader development websites for young clients
Here's what we think:
| Stories from the Web | http://www.storiesfromtheweb.org/sfwhomepage.htm |
An interactive reader development website managed by Birmingham City Libraries on behalf of a number of other library partners. It aims to encourage writing and reading.
| 4ureaders.net | http://www.4ureaders.net |
East Ayrshire and South Lanarkshire's teenage website, which was produced with help from Opening the Book. It is split into 3 sections for different target audiences, each with a different look and feel. It contains the fabulous Book Brother (which attracts high numbers of votes from younger clients), Star Signs horoscope wheel and Talkback.
Again, as well as reading recommendations the website has message boards and online voting. The website encourages children to write reviews which are placed on the site. It also encourages poetry and story-writing.
| Achuka | http://www.achuka.co.uk |
As well as information about children's books, forthcoming titles and authors' links, this website includes chat at Achukachat and blogging at Achockablog.
This site has very useful themed lists. Some of the information, like the Booktalk groups, relates only to the Essex library service. "What's the Buzz" lists books featured in film and television for younger clients.
