Reader development initiatives is the term used to encompass funded, time-limited projects or book prizes, which open up a wider range of reading choices for younger clients. A well known example is the annual summer reading campaign run by Reading Agency (http://www.readingagency.org.uk) which is supported by many UK library authorities.
