Reader development initiatives for adult clients

With the explosion in publishing, there is a huge number of books available for readers. Faced with such a choice some readers find themselves daunted and read in narrow lanes of the works of a single genre or author. Reader development aims to open up reading choices before the reader becomes weary of a limited range. The objective is to increase their reading enjoyment.

Libraries have been following retail trends in terms of improving their stock display and promotion. Organising books into a themed promotion and using a face-on display rather than spine-out display has been shown to increase issues.

Face-on display

Why do you think face-on display is more effective?

Publishers devote considerable thought and money to creating attractively designed covers which are intended to promote the book to potential readers. Face-on display allows the publisher's carefully chosen cover to do its marketing job.
