Library staff know that they must be especially careful when using information from pre-publication lists. Why is this?

The answer lies in the word "pre-publication". These lists may be produced many months before an item is actually published. In the interval between the pre-publication list and the actual publication of the item, the date of publication, length, format and price may change.
